I rediscovered visual art in my 40s after being talked out of pursuing it by a lot of well intentioned adults in my teens. The first thing that developed into a series was the "Little Windows"paintings. I decided to lean into my deficiencies---I had flunked out of drafting class, I had trouble with proportion and I couldn't get a hang of photorealism---and I just went with that. As I went along I created certain motifs where I was actively nailing smaller canvases and panels into larger works----hence the "little windows". I pursued this series from 2005 until 2009 or 2010, when other things started developing.
